Can I get a show of hands of who actually and completely understands how insurance works? Anyone? (Two hands go up in the back).  

If your hand didn’t go up, don’t fret because you are not alone. Only 4% of Americans could define the top 4 health insurance terms in a recent study by Policygenius and Radius Global Research. The confusion around insurance can be rooted in several reasons, such as lack of education, complex jargon, or detailed legal processes. 

Insurance is like a safety net for life’s uncertainties, providing financial protection and peace of mind. However, with the myriad of insurance types available, understanding which ones are essential for you can be a bit overwhelming. In this guide, we’ll break down the different types of insurance, their purposes, and who might benefit from each.  
 

Types of Insurance

 

1)  Health Insurance


Purpose:

Health insurance is designed to cover medical expenses, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medication, and preventative care.  

Who Might Need It:
Everyone! Health insurance is a fundamental necessity for individuals and families to manage healthcare costs and ensure access to necessary medical services.  

Key Concepts:

·     Premium: The amount you pay for your insurance plan.

·     Deductible: The amount you must pay out of pocket before the insurance coverage kicks in.

·     Co-pay/Co-insurance: Your share of the costs of a healthcare service.  

 

2)  Auto Insurance

Purpose:
Auto insurance provides financial protection in case of accidents, theft, or damage to your vehicle. It can also offer liability coverage for injuries or damage caused to others.  

Who Might Need It:
